A stalled front across North Carolina made for quite a range in temperatures Sunday afternoon; highs were hard pressed to get above the mid 60s near the Virginia line while mid 90s were common across the Sandhills.

That front will lift north as a warm front Sunday night keeping the threat of a shower or thunderstorm in the forecast overnight.

Monday and Tuesday will be warm and humid with a good chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

TRACKING FLORENCE

The latest data is painting a scary picture for the Carolinas. Florence strengthened to a hurricane Sunday. Looking ahead, Florence will continue to become more organized and become a major hurricane as early as Monday. As of now, Florence will be approaching the coast of the Carolinas Thursday afternoon as a weak Category 4 or strong Category 3 hurricane.

While the forecast track will probably change some, you need to stay informed and prepare. If Florence does make landfall here in the Carolinas, there's a high likelihood of widespread impacts including downed trees, extended power outages and flooding.

Some forecast models show the storm slowing down or stalling once coming inland or just as it approaches shore. While strong winds are a big issue near the coast inland areas could see eight to twelve inches of rain as the storm weakens.

The bottom line is stay informed and prepare now.
