WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- Some western Wake County parents are disappointed with the school system's first attempt at drafting next year's student assignments.

  • Four schools are set to open next year.
  • Parents say some neighborhoods would be divided.
  • Vote on a final assignment plan comes in November.

The current plan fills four new schools: Southeast Raleigh Elementary, Parkside Elementary, Alston Ridge Middle and Green Level High School.

Some parents are concerned the plan will break up neighborhoods while other parents say their children would have to be bused 23 miles to school.

A second and third draft of the assignment plan will come out before the board votes on a final plan in mid-November.
