JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -- Starting this year, four schools in Johnston County will offer free breakfast and lunch to all students.

  • Four Johnston County Schools are offering free breakfast and lunch to ALL students this year.
  • The program is expected to help families in need that don't qualify for free and reduced lunches.
  • 43 percent of Johnston County students receive free or reduced lunches. 

This is being made possible through a grant program called the Community Eligibility Provision. 

The schools are:

  • Selma Elementary School
  • Selma Middle School
  • South Smithfield Elementary School
  • West Smithfield Elementary School

The program is expected to help families who may not quality for the free and reduced lunch program, but may still be in need.

One mother we spoke to says the program will save her around $50 per month. 

Overall, 43 percent of students in Johnston County receive free or reduced lunch.
