Early September marks the peak of the of the Atlantic Basin tropical season, and with the start of the new month, the tropics are getting active.

Tropical Storm Florence formed late last week and Tropical Storm Gordon formed near the Florida Keys on Monday morning.

Florence is far out in the Atlantic. Many long range models turn the system north over the central Atlantic Ocean by next week.  However, some models bring the storm to near Bermuda and closer to the east coast of the United States. It's too early to tell where Florence will track over time. We will continue to monitor it closely.

Gordon will be a Gulf of Mexico system. The storm is now forecast to make landfall late Tuesday into early Wednesday somewhere between Alabama and Louisiana as a hurricane. The remnant moisture from Gordon is expected to remain west of North Carolina as it moves farther inland later in the week.
