CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Carol Folt sent a message Wednesday urging faculty and students to stay away from the prior location of the Silent Sam statue Thursday.

Multiple rallies are said to be planned for that part of campus Thursday, amongst raging tensions over the statue and how it was removed.

Folt advised faculty and students to "avoid McCorkle Place and remain alert as you move about campus."

Additionally, Folt warns that streets may be closed and traffic could be difficult around campus.

The full message can be read below:

Starting at 5 p.m., police will limit access to East Franklin Street and Henderon Street if conditions warrant. They may also have to close portions of the downtown district.
