GREENVILLE, N.C. -- A woman is honoring her late husband in a special way.

  • Leonard Kulik's family received donations in his honor
  • The donations helped Greenville PD add a K9 to its unit
  • Axle will be introduced to the community on Tuesday

Diane Kulik's husband Leonard was a police supporter and after he died, she asked all donations made in his memory go to support Greenville Police Department's K9 Unit.

The family had more than $7,000 in donations and was able to help the police department add a seventh member to its unit, a Belgian Malinois/Shepherd mix named Axle.

“The Greenville Police Department is touched by the Kulik family’s generosity,” Chief Mark Holtzman said. “It is obvious Leonard was loved and respected by many and we are so honored his friends and family chose to carry on his legacy through one of our police programs. Our K9s are valued members of the GPD family. Axle is no different.”

Axle will be introduced to the Greenville community on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Town Common.
