FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Cancer Center of Cape Fear Valley Medical Center hosted an active shooter drill Sunday.

  • Cape Fear Valley hosted an active shooter drill Sunday.
  • Hundreds of people participated.
  • A report will be released with the results.

More than 10 agencies, and hundreds of people from all over Cumberland County took part.

We're told this is essential training for emergency responders, law enforcement or anybody that may have to someday respond to...a real life crisis.

"It is challenging. Anytime you have this many people working together, they typically work on different frequencies and have their own genre to come around, come together and work together and collaborate, " said Gene Booth, the county's Emergency Management Coordinator.

The scenario in the drill resulted in mass casualties due to an active shooter. Exercise staff spent time evaluating the performance of everyone involved in the drill. And those results will be examined in an after-action report, and then over several months to determine what areas require an improved performance.
