NORTH CAROLINA -- The Orange Rural Fire-Department laid to rest one of its own Saturday.

Hundreds of people gathered to honor Deputy Chief Jeff Holden at New Horizon Church in Durham.

Holden was 32 years-old and leaves behind a wife and young child. 

He died after rescuing a man at a trench collapse in Hillsborough on Monday.

Fire crews from across the state lined up for the procession and funeral.

Speakers at the service talked about Holden's devotion to his community, as well as a beacon of light for the department.
