The Department of Motor Vehicles announced a new list of improvements Tuesday to address excessive wait times.

They will implement express lines for certain transactions and plan to send more staff to some of the busier offices.

Dedicated road teams will also keep examiners from leaving their desks.

“I think we were already working on a lot of these things," said NCDMV Commissioner Torre Jessup. "Technology improvement and improvements to the HR process and getting people hired. This has heightened the urgency of this to make sure our customers in and out and fast as possible.”

The department is also expected to hire an additional 20 people to their already 80 vacant positions.

Jessup says more than likely the new employees will work in high volume areas like Raleigh, Charlotte and Greensboro.
