RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes want a new goal song for this season, and they're letting the fans decide what it will be.

  • More than 28,000 fans voted online for a new song this past week
  • The choice is between "Raise Up" by North Carolina native Petey Pablo and an updated remix of "Brass Bonanza," the goal song they used when they were the Hartford Whalers
  • The team will keep the distinctive goal horn and celebration from wrestler Ric Flair

"You've got three or four goals a game, so those moments are what the fans live for," said Chris Greenley, who manages the Hurricanes' in-arena entertainment service CanesVision. "The goal song is the ultimate celebration."

More than 28,000 fans voted online for a new song this past week, according to the team. Two fan favorites have emerged from their initial list of eight.

The first is "Raise Up" by North Carolina native Petey Pablo. The team chose the local favorite because of its chorus, which features a loud shout out to the state of North Carolina.

In contrast, the other is an updated remix of "Brass Bonanza," the goal song they used when they were the Hartford Whalers. New Hurricanes owner Thomas Dundon has embraced the team's prior history in Hartford, where they played before moving to Raleigh in 1997.

The Hurricanes will not announce the winner until closer to their opening game on October 4.

Regardless of which song wins, the team will keep the distinctive goal horn and celebration from wrestler Ric Flair.
