ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. -- Hundreds of gun rights activists made their voices heard at a rally in Hillsborough on Saturday.

  • Hundreds attended.
  • Organizers say they feel left out of the national conversation about gun safety.
  • The event was not affiliated with any particular political party, but attendees were able to register to vote there.

They rallied outside of the old Orange County Courthouse. Although attendees weren't allowed to carry guns on the property, many were very vocal about their beliefs.

"Private gun ownership enables people to effectively defend themselves against a lethal threat," explains attendee Ashely Campbell. "Particularly as a petite woman, I value my rights."

Organizers say they put on the event because they feel left out of the national conversation about gun safety.

The event was not affiliated with any particular political party, but attendees were able to register to vote there.
