CALDWELL COUNTY, N.C. -- The man who is believed to have shot Caldwell County sheriff's deputy Jordan Sherrill during a traffic stop on Sunday night is dead.

The sheriff's office says the man, whose name hasn't been released, opened fire and was killed during a shootout with SWAT officers yesterday on Zack’s Ford Road in Lenoir.
A woman who was with him, Stephanie Sipes, is charged with accessory after the fact of attempted murder.
Sherrill is recovering from surgery.
