GARNER, N.C. – A 10-year-old girl was killed in a car accident in Garner Tuesday.

  • Gloria Joiner was killed in the crash on I-40.
  • Her father lost control of his SUV which then flipped several times.
  • In all, four people were injured.

The crash happened on Interstate 40 near White Oak Road.

The New Life Baptist Church said Gloria Joiner, of Clinton, was traveling with her family to a Christian youth conference in Charlotte when the accident occurred.

Officials said Gloria's father, David Joiner, was driving west on I-40 in a 2004 Ford Explorer when a tire separated and he lost control of the SUV and it flipped several times in the roadway.

Five people were in the car at the time including Gloria, who was in the front passenger seat.

She was taken to WakeMed when she was pronounced dead.

Two people, including David Joiner, were transported to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Two others were transported with minor injuries as a precaution.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Joiner family with funeral expenses. Contributions will also help off-set the cost of medical expenses for the four others involved.
