DURHAM, N.C. -- Durham police are search for the gunman who shot and tried to rob a Wendy's employee early Tuesday morning.

  • Wendy's employee shot during robbery attempt.
  • Employee was shot in the leg.
  • He is expected to fully recover from his injuries.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. in the 5400 block of South Miami Boulevard.

 

 

Officers say a man with a mask and gun approached the employee as he was leaving the restaurant.

The employee told police that the gunman forced him back inside and demanded cash, but the registers were empty.

The suspect then demanded the employee open the safe, but he couldn't do it.

That's when the employee was told to lie down and was shot in the leg.

The employee was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover.

The restaurant is back open for business.
