A cold front is on the way and it will likely pass through North Carolina Tuesday and Wednesday. This will bring the return of widespread rain to the state. Ahead of the front today we’ve dealt with southerly winds creating a warm afternoon in the mid-80s to low 90s. A few showers and storms have developed many have been dry through a cloudy day at times.

Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies today as the few storms that did develop today fizzle out. Lows will be warmer tonight than last night in the mid-70s, due to overnight cloud cover.

Tuesday will feature mostly cloudy skies with showers and storms beginning by after 2 p.m. Rain coverage will begin isolated and expand becoming scattered through the evening. The cold front will slide through central and eastern N.C. early Wednesday and likely stall over northern South Carolina. This is why rain chances will remain elevated Wednesday.

Drier air moves in behind the front to clear things out Thursday. Expect mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies Thursday with afternoon highs in the upper 80s. The front will then lift north late Thursday as a warm front. Rain chances will climb and we’ll likely deal with a few showers and storms Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
