ORANGE COUNTY, N.C. -- A teen girl is recovering after falling from a 25-foot cliff at a rock quarry at Eno State Park Sunday afternoon.

  • The 15-year-old was pulled from the water by her friends
  • The area where the girl fell was not open to the public for swimming
  • The teen is in stable condition and is expected to be okay

Orange County authorities say the 15-year-old was pulled from the water by her friends.

The girl tried to jump off the cliff into the water but got hooked on a tree.

The quarry is about three miles east of Durham.

The area where the girl fell was not open to the public for swimming. However, people were back making the same jump Monday despite rangers' repeated warnings and several disastrous jumps over the years.

"I never think people are going to make it. I've responded to emergencies where I've seen exposed bones coming out of people's legs. When you jump from the wall here and you don't make it, you're going to catastrophically break your arms or your legs," said Ranger Kimberly Radewicz.

The teen is in stable condition and is expected to be okay.
