SELMA, N.C. -- A Wake County woman is behind bars after officers say she tied a puppy to her truck and then crashed it, killing the puppy.

  • Gloria Mitchell of Garner is charged with killing a puppy by dragging it around with her truck.
  • Her blood alcohol level was .347, more than four times the legal limit.
  • She's charged with animal cruelty, DWI and communicating threats to police.

According to her arrest report, Gloria Mitchel, 45, of Garner, was seen by witnesses dragging the puppy around the parking lot of the Knights Inn at 100 Graham Street in Selma on the night of July 5. During this time she struck at least one other car, and the puppy died.

When police arrived to the scene, the report says Mitchell was "hostile and aggressive" with officers.

It was then found that Mitchell's blood-alcohol level was .347, more than four times the legal limit. To put that into context, .350 is the level of surgical anesthesia.

Mitchell was booked at the Johnston County Jail and charged with animal cruelty, DWI and communicating threats to police.

She is expected in court on July 26.
