DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke University officials have announced they no longer will require applicants to submit their SAT essay or ACT writing scores.

  • Essay/writing scores won't be required anymore
  • University officials still recommend applicants send them for consideration
  • Student activists have called for no more scores requirements

According to the student-run Duke Chronicle, interested applicants will still need to submit other sections of the SAT or ACT tests, but do not need to submit the writing or essay portions.

However, they do recommend students still submit those writing scores for consideration.

This move comes after student activists across the country have called for scores requirements to be dropped.
