DURHAM, N.C. -- Investigators are looking into a deadly chain reaction crash that closed down a part of Durham Freeway Thursday morning.

  • One killed in crash involving multiple vehicles.
  • Accident happened near the Cornwallis Road exit.
  • Traffic was tied up during the morning commute.

It happened in the southbound lanes near the Cornwallis Road exit.

The State Highway Patrol said a tractor-trailer hit a pick-up truck and both drivers then pulled over to the left shoulder.

Moments later, another pick-up truck slammed into the back of the big rig.

So far, the name of the victim has not been released.
