DURHAM, N.C. -- The Red Cross is helping a woman whose home sustained heavy damage in a fire early Wednesday morning.

  • Woman and dog inside the home made it out safely.
  • No injuries reported.
  • Cause of the fire is still being determined.

The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. in the 1800 block of East Geer Street in Durham.       

Fire officials say there was heavy damage in one room and the attic. There was also smoke damage throughout the home.

The woman was found in the backyard with her dog when firefighters got to the scene.

No one was injured.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
