Summer does not officially start until Thursday, but it feels like we are already in the middle of summer.

Wednesday's high will return to the 90s, and the humidity will make it feel even hotter.

The heat index will range between 100 and 108 for much of Wednesday afternoon across central and eastern North Carolina.

These hot conditions can be especially dangerous for anyone working outside, anyone that does not have access to air conditioning, the elderly, children, and our pets.

If you must work outside, take frequent breaks in the shade. Everyone should drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

The effects of heat on our health is cumulative. Day after to day of hot afternoon temperatures and very little cooling and night can make the heat even more dangerous for our health. Heat related illnesses like heat exhaustion and even heat stroke could develop quickly.

The heat may not be the only weather story for Wednesday. The hot and humidity conditions could fuel scattered storms around the region from mid and late afternoon through the evening. While not everyone will see storms, some of them could produce strong wind gusts and frequent lightning.
