DURHAM, N.C. – Three people died after they were pulled from a swimming pool in Durham.

  • Two men and a woman drowned early Tuesday.
  • Pool at the Chapel Tower Apartments was closed at the time.
  • Fourth person who was also swimming is being interviewed by police.

It happened at the Chapel Tower Apartments shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday in the 1300 block of Morreene Road.

Police pulled two males and one female from the pool. They were taken to Duke University Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

At last report, the victims had not been identified.

Police said four people were swimming after normal pool hours. Durham police interviewed the fourth person.

Neighbors were awakened by a man going from door-to-door, knocking and yelling. They said people entering the pool after hours happens often at the complex.

A pool maintenance technician said the pool gates were locked when his crews checked earlier Monday evening.
