RALEIGH, N.C. – A correctional employee suffered serious injuries after an incident involving two inmates at Central Prison in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon.

  • A correctional employee, Brent Soucier, was assaulted at Central Prison.
  • Soucier suffered serious injuries.
  • The attackers were two inmates.

The inmates, Jaquan Lane and Andrew Ellis, used a homemade weapon to attack 44-year-old Unit Manager Brent Soucier. He's been with the prison system for 19 years.

Soucier was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Lane and Ellis were also transported after the incident with non-life threatening injuries. 

The assault happened in a housing area of the prison that was put under lockdown

It is under internal investigation and State Capitol Police, as well as the State Bureau of Investigation, were contacted.

Ellis was in the first year of a six year sentence for gun and drug charges. Lane was in the middle of a nearly seven year sentence for robbery with a dangerous weapon.
