CUMBERLAND COUNTY-- Some of the people impacted by the GenX situation are not happy about what they heard at a Town Hall meeting Tuesday.

  • Chemours, the company that produces the chemical GenX, held that meeting
  • It is still unclear what effect GenX could potentially have on people
  • Residents critcized the method of having questions submitted in writing before the meeting

Chemours, the company that produces the chemical GenX, held that meeting to discuss the issue with people who's private wells have been found to contain high levels of the chemical.

It is still unclear what effect GenX could potentially have on people, but in lab tests with animals, it has been shown to cause tumors and other ailments.

Residents critcized the method of having questions submitted in writing before the meeting. ""If they want to reach out and take hard questions, take them straight from the people. You might not like the questions but take them from the people," said Michael Watters.

Watters owns a home in a neighborhood about a mile from the Chemours plant, which is off Highway 87 near the Cumberland and Bladen County line.

Television cameras were not allowed in the town hall meeting. Chemours has said that they intend to spend $100,000,000 to find a solution to this situation. The company also says they will continue to provide bottled water to those who are affected by this.
