APEX, N.C. -- A man has been arrested after police say he carjacked a woman at an Apex Target last month.

  • Anilber Gerardo Barrera, 21, has been arrested for carjacking a woman at an Apex Target.
  • Woman was attempting to put her baby in the car at the time of the theft.
  • Baby was removed from car before Barrera drove off.

The victim was attempting to strap her baby into a car seat in the parking lot of the shopping center on Beaver Creek Commons Drive just after 10 a.m. on May 23.

Police say Anilber Gerardo Barrera, 21, approached the victim with a gun and stole the woman's car and wallet.

Luckily, the woman was able to get the baby out of the car before Barrera drove off.

Barrera has been charged with armed robbery and vehicle theft. 

He has been taken to the Wake County Jail.
