RALEIGH, N.C. -- Wake County students came together Tuesday to ensure more tragedies caused by gun violence don't happen.

  • 'Die In' held on anniversary of Pulse nightclub shooting.
  • Students remembered the 49 victims.
  • They want tighter gun control laws.

They hosted a “die-in” in front of the General Assembly in response to one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern U.S. history -- the Pulse night club shooting in Florida, which happened exactly two years ago.

Students demanded tighter gun control measures and more school psychologists, which is part of the list of recommendations state lawmakers have drafted in their push to enhance school safety.

Many say little progress has been made when it comes to ending gun violence.

"The time is now. It always has been now for us to make change to make it more difficult to access assault weapons,” said student Joshua Verne. “For example, these are things that have not been put through since the Pulse shooting [and] since Sandy Hook. These are things that should have happened a long time ago"

The event was organized by the "Why Wake Walks" campaign to end gun violence.
