CARY, N.C. -- German grocer Lidl announced it's no longer coming to Cary.

The grocer planned to build a 35,000 square foot store on N.C. 55 north of McCrimmon Parkway.

The news was confirmed by Cary spokeswoman Deanna Hawkes saying, "Our development techs received an email on April 27 from the architect that they were withdrawing their building plans and it was OK to close the project."

Last month, Ikea announced that it also was abandoning plans for a Cary location.

Lidl currently has stores in Raleigh and Wake Forest. They didn't comment on the Cary abandonment.
