Scattered storms with heavy downpours caused flooding problems in parts of the Triangle Monday night.

Over four inches of rain fell in some neighborhoods north of downtown Raleigh, which caused Crabtree Creek to flood.

There were several reports of cars stranded in flood water near Crabtree Valley Mall and along Leesville Road.

A few isolated storms could develop again late Tuesday afternoon and evening, but fewer storms are expected compared to Monday.

Much of Tuesday will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny. High temperatures will warm to the mid and upper 80s across central North Carolina.

A higher chance for showers and storms is forecast for Wednesday as a front approaches the state from the north. Some of Wednesday's storms could again produce heavy downpours. A few storms could also produce hail and strong wind gusts.

As that front moves to the south, very little chance for rain is forecast for Thursday and Friday.

By the end of the week, our attention will turn to the Gulf of Mexico.  An area of low pressure will be developing there over the next several days.

It could even become a tropical system by the weekend.  Whether or not it becomes an organized tropical system, it appears the low will enhance the chance for rain across the southeast including the Carolinas for the Memorial Day weekend.
