NORTH CAROLINA -- After some record rainfall Saturday, the weather will settle down a bit as we finish off the weekend.

  • Record rainfall in Wilmington Saturday
  • Showers more likely across eastern sections with a scattered late day thunderstorms
  • Little more sun on Sunday, we are expecting warmer daytime highs

The flow of moist tropical air from the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean will shift to the east for Sunday, so we won’t see quite the intensity or coverage that we saw on Saturday.

Record rainfall in Wilmington Saturday with 5.52 inches measured at the airport. New Bern saw 1.33 inches also a record for the day.

Sunday will bring only a few showers across western and central North Carolina with isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Showers more likely across eastern sections with a scattered late day thunderstorms.

With a little more sun on Sunday, we are expecting warmer daytime highs.

A frontal boundary will sag southward by Monday and this should give the state a better chance for showers and late day thunderstorms as we head into the work week.
