FORT BRAGG, N.C. -- More than 7,200 boots were on display at Hedrick Stadium on Saturday.

  • Boots represent fallen warriors
  • The annual event honors service members from all military branches
  • Memorial will be in place until Monday morning

Each of those boots represented a fallen warrior. Each of the five branches of the military was represented.

That annual tribute is the focus of the Fort Bragg Run, Honor, Remember 5K. Every year, the event is held for a specific purpose which is to mainly support the families that those fallen warriors have left behind.

"Recognize those that have lost their lives as well as the families that are left behind. They're the ones that gave the ultimate sacrifice," said Charlotte Watson, head of Survivor Outreach Services.

The memorial will remain in place until late Monday morning. Just before that, 17,000 paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division are scheduled to run past the boots memorial during their Division Run, which is the unofficial start of All-American Week at the post.
