CLAYTON, N.C. -- Fire heavily damaged a row of single story apartments in Clayton.

  • Fire started around midnight.
  • Apartments were vacant.
  • No injuries reported.    

It happened late Thursday evening in the 1000 block of South Lombard Street not far from West Clayton Elementary School.

The fire department got help from several area departments including Garner and Cleveland.

The apartments have been vacant since January.

No one was hurt.
