RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. -- North Carolina leaders say they're poised to make the state even more attractive to big businesses that want to locate here.

This comes as speculation continues to circulate about whether Apple and Amazon will choose RTP for their next big projects.

Leaders are holding off on commenting on deals before anything is official, but either deal would bring billions of dollars and thousands of jobs to the Tar Heel State.

These considerations come on the heels of deals that North Carolina has missed out on in recent months. Both Toyota-Mazda and Boeing, who considered NC for major expansions, chose to go elsewhere.

Sen. Phil Berger says he believes proposed modifications in the upcoming budget would encourage economic development.

Those modification include:

  • Grants for investing and growing in the state
  • Removal of caps for how much the state could award per job
  • Assurances that some of the benefit from changes go toward a fund aimed at rural communities

While there isn't a timeline of development with Apple, Amazon is expected to choose their new site by the end of the year.
