You may want to make your Mother's Day weekend plans inside in the air conditioning. Summer weather has arrived a bit early here in North Carolina.

With plenty of sun, we'll feel the summer heat Friday afternoon with highs near 90 around the Triangle and the low 90s across the Sandhills.

Saturday and Sunday should be a little hotter with highs in the low 90s. Saturday's record high for Raleigh stands at 95 from 1896. We should fall just short of that, but there is a very good chance that we'll at least tie a record high on Mother's Day.  Sunday's record currently stands at 93 from 2000.

The chance for an isolated late afternoon or evening storm is just 20 percent each day through the weekend. The chance for afternoon storms will be higher from the middle to last half of next week.
