DURHAM—Rapper Young Dolph is blasting Duke Univerity's Vice President for Student Affairs Larry Moneta on Twitter.

Moneta is under fire after he heard an explicit rap song inside the Joe Van Gogh coffee shop on campus last week. His complaint reached the company and baristas Kevin Simmons and Britni Brown were fired. Moneta contends he only complained to Duke Dining and isn't responsible for the company's actions. The company later apologized and offered the baristas their jobs back.

On Twitter, Young Dolph called Moneta selfish.

“I find it incredible disappointing the Vice President for Student Affairs would overreact in this kind of way,” says student activist Anastasia Karklina.

Students protested Wednesday marching from from the coffee shop to Moneta's office.

“He was very understanding. He said that we wanted to respect us by listening to us,” says Karlina.

But many on social media are calling for Moneta to apologize and resign says he's oblivious to racial matters and free speech. Some argue Brown, an African-American woman, was fired because of her race and Simmons, a Caucasian male, was collateral damage.

“I think it is peculiar that a black woman who was playing a rap song was fired because a white administrator in power found that inappropriate,” says Karlina.
