WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- It's been a controversial Democratic primary for Wake County commissioner seats, but the results are in.

In District 1, incumbent Vice Chair Sig Hutchinson won with 62.25 percent of the vote. He was challenged by Democrat Jeremiah Pierce, a small business owner in the Triangle.

In District 2, incumbent Matt Calabria won with 51.63 percent of the vote. He was challenged by Democrat Lindy Brown, who came in at 48.37 percent. Calabria is an attorney and has been on the board since 2014. Brown is a retired social worker and former commissioner looking to rejoin the board.

For the 4th district, Democrat Susan Evans won against incumbent Erv Portman with 61.98 percent. She's previously served on the Wake County School Board, while Portman has been with the Board of Commissioners since 2012.

In the 5th district, incumbent James West earned 82.62 percent of the vote. He was challenged by Democrat Robert Finch, Sr., who came in at 17.38 percent. He's a political newcomer and small business owner looking to bring change. West has been with the board since 2010 and has also previously served on the Raleigh City Council.

Finally in District 7, Attorney John Burns lost his seat to Democrat Vickie Adamson. She's a retired business analyst looking to strengthen the relationship between the commissioners and the school board. She earned 51.75 percent of the vote, while Burns came in at 48.25 percent.
