After a very wet 48 hours, the atmosphere will finally begin to dry out Wednesday as the low pressure system exits to the north. A brief lull in the wet weather will quickly be brought to an end by our next storm system arriving late Thursday.

The last of the rain from Monday and Tuesday's system still lingers for areas to the north of I-40 early Wednesday morning. With the northward progression of this system, expect rain to come to an end by mid-morning Wednesday, leaving the Piedmont with mostly cloudy to partly sunny skies.

The exception to this will be the mountains, where ongoing upslope rain showers will continue through the day under moist northwest flow. A few spotty showers cannot be ruled out across the Piedmont this afternoon (though that chance will be few and far between).

Temperatures will be near average today, with highs topping off in the low to mid 70s with upper 50s in the mountains.

Wednesday night into the first part of Thursday will bring us a brief period of dry weather ahead of our next approaching wet-weather system. A secondary area of low pressure will begin moving in from the southwest late Thursday afternoon and Thursday evening, bringing us -- you guessed it -- more rain. This system, however, won't be nearly as long lived as the one the past one, and should quickly clear out by mid-morning Friday. Expect an additional quarter to three-quarters of an inch of rain.

By Friday afternoon, high pressure will begin its move back into our region, leading us into a gorgeous weekend of sunshine and near average temperatures!
