CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It's been a monumental year for Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles. She was elected as the first black female mayor of the city and, now, is being honored by Essence Magazine.

The magazine released its 'Woke 100 Women' list which highlights 100 black women who have influenced, proven change, and created dialogue that advocates for all, especially women and people of color.

Vi Lyles was number 80 on the list, and is being recognized for her "plans to grow Charlotte through strategic partnerships."
