Most of North Carolina will see between one and three inches of rain from Monday through Wednesday. Some of the higher totals will come across southeastern North Carolina near the coast and in western North Carolina near the mountains. The eastern slopes of the mountains and foothills could see up to four inches. Much of the Piedmont including Raleigh, Greensboro, and Charlotte should see around one to two inches.

Rain will spread from the southwest to northeast across the Carolinas Monday ahead of low pressure slowly moving across the region. That will bring some of the heaviest rain to central and eastern North Carolina from Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The storm system will also make for breezy conditions across the state. Wind gusts up to 30mph will be possible the next couple of days.  Even higher gusts are possible in the mountains and along the coast where Wind Advisories have been issued. These areas could see gusts to 40 or even 50mph.

The threat for severe storms appears low at this time, but a strong storm or two cannot be completely ruled out in the Sandhills and southeastern North Carolina along a warm front Tuesday.

The heaviest rain should move north of North Carolina by late Tuesday. However, scattered showers could develop on the backside of the storm system Wednesday.

A weaker system could bring another chance for rain to parts of North Carolina late Thursday into early Friday.
