NORTH CAROLINA -- Vice President Mike Pence visited North Carolina for some Republican fundraising and promoting President Trump's tax overhaul law.

  • Pence scheduled stops in Charlotte and Greensboro.
  • The stops include a Rep. Mark Walker fundraiser, an America First Policies gathering and a RNC event.
  • He also toured tornado damage in the Triad.

Pence arrived Friday morning in Greensboro, making an appearance at a fundraiser for Rep. Mark Walker, who is seeking a third term this fall and leads the conservative Republican Study Committee caucus on Capitol Hill.

He also toured tornado damage on the east city of the city, promising federal support for victims of last week's storm.

"I'm here to assure the people of this community and of North Carolina that we are with you. The Governor made a request for a preliminary damage assessment by FEMA. I spoke to the director of FEMA this morning and we have personnel on the ground," he said.

Later, the vice president heads to Charlotte and an event sponsored by a nonprofit group backing Trump's agenda. He spoke at the America First Policies gathering talking about the overhaul law's tax cuts.

“We are seeing extra benefit here in the state of North Carolina,” he said.

He highlighted local companies that have passed on benefits to their employees.

While the Vice President seemed to focus more on over-arching themes, North Carolina Congressmen Robert Pittenger and Thom Tillis filled in the detail with a town hall prior to Pence's arrival.
