KNIGHTDALE, N.C. – New details are emerging about a shocking triple murder-suicide that spanned several states and started in Knightdale this week.

Police believe they have a clear picture of what 43-year-old Steven Pladl did that led to the deaths of his baby, two adults and himself.

This investigation started when Pladl's mother called 911 Thursday morning.

Caller: “His wife broke up with him over the phone yesterday and he told me she’s in New York. And he told me he was on his way. He called me last night and told me he was on his way. He’s gonna bring (mute) baby to her and then he was coming back and he just… he just (crying).”

911: “OK”

Caller: “He said he doesn’t have… He killed his wife. He killed her father. I can’t even believe this is happening.”

911: “OK and did this happen in Knightdale?”

Caller: “Uh, no. His wife and father are in New York. But he left, he left the baby dead when he left.”

Steven Pladl is the biological father and husband of 20-year-old Katie Pladl.

They had been living together in Knightdale and were arrested for in January for an incestuous relationship.

The couple had a baby boy named Bennett, but Steven’s mother told dispatchers the relationship turned rocky.

Steven then called his mother saying he killed Bennett, left the baby at the home in Knightdale and drove to Connecticut where he shot and killed Katie and her adoptive father, Anthony Busco.

Police say Steven then crossed the state line into New York where he shot and killed himself.

Knightdale police believe no other suspects are involved.
