RALEIGH, N.C. -- Afternoon temperatures have been cooler than average so far this week in central North Carolina. That will change Thursday afternoon as temperatures soar into the mid 70s. The warm up will be aided by all day sunshine and southwest winds that may gust up to 20mph late in the day.

Low temperatures will only drop to the 50s late Thursday night into early Friday morning. That will set us up for an even warmer day Friday. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80 are expected.

Saturday's weather should be just as nice with sunshine and highs around 80 to the low 80s.

While we enjoy the nice weather for the first half of the weekend, we will have to keep a close eye on Sunday's forecast. Low pressure and a front sweeping across the Carolinas late into the weekend could bring severe storms to the region Sunday afternoon and Sunday night.
