Spring weather in the Tar Heel State is highlighted by big swings in temperatures and this week is a good example of that.

The cold front that brought showers and thunderstorms across central and eastern North Carolina Wednesday will move off shore overnight as northwest winds bring in much cooler air.

After a warm start to the work week with highs in the 70s and 80s Thursday will start off on the chilly side.

Morning lows will range through the 30s with some areas near the Virginia border at or below freezing.

Then, in spite of full sunshine, Thursday afternoon temperatures will struggle to make it into the low 60s.

Friday will warm up a little, just in time for some more cold air just in time for the weekend; Saturday and Sunday will see highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.
