FAYETTEVILLE -- Fayetteville Police say they're investigating after a local animal hospital received threats over the phone and on social media.

This, after a firestorm on Facebook surrounding a Fayetteville woman's dog.

Annabelle Voss says her dog, Hank, was in a lot of pain after emergency abdonimal surgery at Banfield Pet Hospital, located inside the Pet Smart on Skibo Road.

She believes a doctor there made medical mistakes, so she took to social media to share her story where others also commented, sharing their concerns.

"I'm hoping just to fight for justice for my dog and for those whose stories have gone unheard, to find justice for those who have suffered at the hands of Banfield," Voss said.

A spokesperson for Banfield said the hospital is confident in the care they provided for Hank, but that there could have been an opportunity to have communicated more closely with the clients about what to expect from the outcome of the procudure.

"Surgical staples are an appropriate method of skin closure,” said Dr. Ari Zabell, the director of client advocate support at Banfield Pet Hospital. “There’s nothing wrong with using skin staples. The challenge is skin staples are not cosmetically pleasing."
