JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Jacksonville police have arrested a man in connection to a death that happened last weekend.         

Authorities say 28-year-old John Deavers Jr. is charged with an open count of murder and common law robbery.

They say Deavers assaulted 28-year-old William Young on Gum Branch Road Saturday, stole money from him and left.

Young then returned to his apartment where he later died.

Authorities say Deavers and Young knew each other.

Deavers is being held in the Onslow County Jail without bond after his first court appearance Friday morning.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 12.
