RALEIGH -- The jury will now determine the fate of the man accused of killing his wife and daughter and posting pictures of their bodies on Facebook.

Elhadji Diop is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the 2016 deaths.

Closing arguments wrapped up by midday Friday.

The defense's key argument is while Diop is responsible for his wife's and daughter's deaths but their deaths were an accident after the husband and wife got into a fight on April 5, 2016.

Evidence presented Thursday suggested the couple argued over financial struggles. The state says that argument turned violent with Diop killing his wife in the kitchen of their west Raleigh townhome.

The prosecution questioned why Diop didn’t call 911 at the time of his wife and daughter's deaths.

"It is difficult to understand how you can murder your wife and your daughter, move their bodies, pose them on the bottom floor, and not call 911, said district Attorney Lorrin Freeman.

"There are two people dead that are not injured. They are not suffering. They are dead. Can I grieve on my own," said Defense Attorney Charles Caldwell.

The state asked the jury to return a guilty verdict for first degree

The defense believes a not-guilty or guilty of voluntary manslaughter verdicts are more fitting.

Diop faces the death penalty is convicted of first degree murder.
