RALEIGH -- Closing arguments are expected Friday morning in the case against the man accused of killing his wife and daughter and posting it on Facebook.

Elhadji Diop is charged with two counts of first degree murder in the 2016 deaths.

Raleigh Police Detective Issa Omar Smith, who is the lead detective in the case, testified Thursday. He focused on the methods and details of his investigation.

Smith says he obtained a search warrant, after finding Diop's wife, 40-year-old Aminata Drame, and the couple's two-year-old daughter, Fatim Diop, dead inside the home.

Smith said Elhadji Diop was interviewed by police at the hospital where he told officers he and Ami had gotten into a fight after their daughter fell and became unresponsive.

Diop told officers that fight led to his and Ami's injuries.

However, Smith said he saw no signs of a struggle inside the home.

Smith: "I looked around for other things. I did not see anything that had any blood on it or appeared to have been moved around, at that time we were looking.”

Attorney: “Did you see anything that led you to believe that there had been some sort of struggle in the kitchen?”

Smith: “No."

The other aspect of this case is Elhadji is accused of posting images of his wife and daughter's dead bodies on Facebook.

Smith said Diop gave him permission to access his Facebook page to take those images down.

If convicted of first degree murder, Diop could face the death penalty.
