RALEIGH -- Wake County is no a stranger to bridge collapses.

In 2014, a pedestrian footbridge collapsed on Wake Tech's northern campus.

Following an investigation, the Department of Labor decided the collapse was caused to a flaw in the design.

The North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors says they fined Stewart Engineering a maximum penalty of $5000 and reprimanded a junior engineer on the project. A third case against another engineer on the project is still pending.

"It's a permanent mark on their record," said Andrew Ritter, Executive Director of NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. "It's on their record forever. There's not statue of limitations on that mark," he said."

The pedestrian bridge was re-built and opened on campus last August.
