RALEIGH – A fast-moving fire, which ripped through a northeast Raleigh apartment complex Thursday morning, left some residents with nothing

The fire was reported at the Mission Capital Crossing Apartments in the 4700 block of Dansey Drive around 8 a.m. Thursday.

“Everything is gone except my life, and I'm grateful to God for that,” said Shirley Fuller, who woke up to flames in her apartment. “My curtains, the bed and the pillows on the bed were on fire.”

Jeff Payne saw the smoke, called 911 and alerted residents.

“I pounded real hard and I didn't even wait for an answer,” Payne said. “I went to the next to see if anyone went to the door, and I said, ‘Get out, there's a fire!’”

While no one was hurt, at least five people, including Fuller, are left without a place to call home.

There’s no word yet on what sparked the blaze.
