MAXTON, N.C. -- A Scotland County Sheriff’s deputy was laid to rest Wednesday.

Deputy Alexis “Thunder Eagle” Locklear was killed after he lost control of his car while trying to help several other deputies who were pursuing a suspect in a high speed chase last week.

Locklear, 23, joined the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office last May.

Funeral services were held at the Purnell Swett High School gymnasium where Locklear graduated from high school.

Locklear was buried following the service at the Lumbee Memorial Gardens.

Along with his parents and grandparents, Locklear is survived by six sisters and a 4-year-old daughter.
