Wednesday's high of 77 at the Raleigh-Durham Airport broke the old record of 76 from 2011. Fayetteville also set a new record when the temperature topped out at 81. The old record was 80 from 1991.

Records should easily be broken again Thursday afternoon as temperatures warm to near 80 and the low 80s. Thursday's record high for Raleigh dates back all the way to 1897 when it was 75. In Fayetteville, the record for the date is 77 from 2003.

Friday's temperature forecast is a little more uncertain at least from Raleigh to the north. A cold front will try to approach North Carolina from the north by Friday morning.

One computer forecast model suggests cooler air will spill into at least parts of central North Carolina. That would keep highs in the 50s near the Virginia boarder, the 60s near the Triangle, and the 70s in the Sandhills.  However, there are other models that suggest the cooler air will stay well to our north and Friday's highs could be well into the 70s or back to near 80.

It is very difficult to determine which computer model has the correct forecast for Friday. For now, we'll forecast highs in the low to mid 70s around the Triangle and near 80 in the Sandhills. Just know, that is subject to change depending on that cold front to our north.

The weekend outlook is more certain. Highs in the upper 70s to near 80 are forecast for Saturday and Sunday. There's only a slight chance for a shower Saturday afternoon. We'll see a higher chance for showers late Sunday and again Monday.

Highs should return to the 60s for the first half of next week.
